Question 1

What is a hydraulic check valve?

Accepted Answer

A hydraulic check valve is a non-return valve that allows fluid to flow in only one direction and automatically prevents backflow. SHIELD hydraulic check valves include silent / non-slam, butterfly, ball and tilting disc designs for water, HVAC, chemical, oil & gas and power industries.

Question 2

What types of hydraulic check valves does SHIELD offer?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD offers four main hydraulic check valve types: Silent / Non-Slam Check Valves for water hammer prevention, Butterfly Check Valves (wafer and dual plate) for compact installations, Ball Check Valves for viscous fluids and slurries, and Tilting Disc Check Valves for high pressure and high velocity service.

Question 3

What is the size and pressure range of SHIELD hydraulic check valves?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic check valves are available in sizes from DN15 to DN1200 (1/2" to 48") with pressure ratings of PN10, PN16, PN25, Class 150 and Class 300. Temperature range is -20°C to 425°C depending on seat material.

Question 4

Which standards do SHIELD hydraulic check valves comply with?

Accepted Answer

SHIELD hydraulic check valves are designed to API 594, API 6D, EN 12334 and MSS SP-125, and tested to API 598, ISO 5208 and EN 12266-1. Flange drilling options include ASME B16.1 Class 125, B16.5 Class 150/300, EN 1092 PN10/PN16/PN25 and JIS 10K.

Question 5

What materials are available for SHIELD hydraulic check valves?

Accepted Answer

Body materials: Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel. Disc materials: Stainless Steel, Ductile Iron, Aluminum Bronze. Stem materials: Stainless Steel 304 / 316. Seat materials: EPDM, NBR, PTFE and Metal-to-Metal.

Question 6

How do I choose the right hydraulic check valve for my application?

Accepted Answer

Selection depends on fluid type, viscosity, pressure, temperature, flow velocity and installation space. Use Silent / Non-Slam for water hammer prevention, Butterfly Check for space-limited installations, Ball Check for viscous or particulate media, and Tilting Disc Check for high pressure and high velocity service. Contact SHIELD engineering team for selection guidance.

Question 7

Does SHIELD provide technical drawings and documentation?

Accepted Answer
